Upcoming Student Opportunities

Geoconvention 2020 (May 11 - 13, 2020)
There is a Student Travel Assistance Program which will cover 75% of eligible travel expenses to a maximum of $500 CAD. This is a great opportunity for any students who live and go to university outside of Calgary and are planning to attend the convention. Please visit to determine your eligibility and submit your application for the student funding. Applications will be accepted until February 25, 2020 and will require a letter of reference from a faculty member, so getting a head start on the requirements is recommended.
To be eligible:
     1. Have a primary residence outside of Calgary, Alberta
     2. Be a student at an educational institution outside of Calgary, Alberta
     3. Be a student member of one of the organizing societies (Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists,
         Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists or Canadian Well Logging Society)
     4. Have a 3.0 or higher GPA (must provide a current transcript or proof of academic standing)
      5. Complete the application form prior to February 25, 2020
(Registration fees will not be eligible for the travel assistance program, but by volunteering a minimum of 8 hours, you can attend GeoConvention 2020 and get a further $100 reimbursement!)

Canadian Mineral Industry Education Foundation scholarships
$1000 scholarships available by application for students who have a genuine interest in being employed in the mining industry. Scholarships are awarded in April to students who will be attending university in September of that year. Application deadline is March 31 each year. See for details.

Field Course funding

A field school fund is available to assist students to participate in field courses and other field experiences. Any student enrolled in a program in the department may make an application to the fund once a year, stating their needs and the benefits they anticipate to gain from the field work. Applications should be directed to the department head.
