YMP Scholarship Winners
Two Acadia students are recipients of Young Mining Professionals Scholarships for 2021. YMP Toronto partnered with Barrick Gold Corporation, Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, The Northern Miner, IAMGOLD Corp, Yamana Gold, Anaconda Mining, and Orefinders Resources Inc. to fund scholarships for Canadian University students (undergraduate and graduate) enrolled a program that promotes a career in mining.

Both scholarship recipients received $3000 Indigenous Scholarships in the Ore Group. Lerena Ashevak is a first-year Environmental Science student from Iqaluit. Mitch Maracle is a final-year Geology Honours student from Belleville, Ontario, who came to Acadia via the Sir Sandford Fleming College transfer agreement with Acadia. For his honours thesis he is using Lidar to study sinkhole development in northern Nova Scotia, supervised by Dr. Mo Snyder.
