Science Atlantic Environmental Conference 2026
A large number of conference awards were won by our EES student over the past two weeks!
The 23rd Annual Science Atlantic Environment Conference was hosted at Acadia University this year by conference co chairs Nelson O’Driscoll and Sarah Hines and a team of ENVS and ESST students including: Carly Blair, Lucy Boyne, Kirsten Gallant, Janelle Halliday, Hannah Hayes, Anneliese Henneberg, Ocean Lushman, Sophia MacDonald, Lizzy MacSween, Rowan Norrad, Amanda Tracy. The conference began on Friday in the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre with registration food, refreshments, and fun activities planned to help participants connect. Throughout the weekend, students enjoyed a full schedule of oral and poster presentations featuring both undergraduate and graduate research. On Saturday, a keynote lecture and Q&A with Dr. Ashlee Cunsolo was given on Ecological Grief. Saturday evening’s banquet featured a student-run trivia night. On Sunday, a panel of experts explored Two-Eyed Seeing and Indigenous perspectives in environmental careers. A number of students from Acadia won awards over the weekend including:
Ben Gooley: Best Poster Presentation
Gretchen McPhail: 3rd Best Graduate Oral Presentation
Eve Pole: Acadia Forest Region Award
The previous weekend Hannah Hayes also won the Best Research Poster award and the People's Choice award for Applied Aquatic Sciences at the Science Atlantic conference for Biology and Applied Aquatic Sciences (BAAS) hosted by Mount Allison University.
