Professor Sandra Barr talks to Alexis Armstrong in a Smoko podcast
Alexis Armstong (Acadia BSc Geology, 2012) subsequently completed both an MSc in Geology and MBA at Queen’s University. She had a diverse career that included gold exploration, 3-D modeling, underground production, and working as a marine technician for Texas A&M's International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP). Alexis completed more than 10 expeditions on the deep-sea drilling vessel, the Joides Resolution, including two in the Antarctic polar region. She is passionate about advocacy and women's representation in non-traditional roles (STEAM & Trades): creating Peggy Workwear and the sister-brand the Smoko Podcast. Named after her 100-year-old grandmother, the mission of Peggy Workwear is to increase representation of women and non-binary folks within non-traditional roles. The vision is that through community, authentic storytelling and accessible and functional garments we will be able to reform culture and redesign industrial spaces.
