GEOL 3823 students take the new GPR for a spin

The third year geophysics course (GEOL 3823) got to test out a new piece of equipment: a ground penetrating radar (GPR). A GPR is a non-destructive way to investigate the shallow subsurface. High-frequency radio waves are transmitted into the ground, refracted, scattered, and recorded back at the surface.

The GEOL 3823 students were pushing the equipment around campus attempting to locate structures that could be utility lines, cavities, or even buried building remains!
