Geology in the (elementary) classroom
Acadia Geology MSc student Amanda Smith recently visited Gaspereau Valley Elementary School to assist a combined grade 3 and 4 class in their study unit on rocks, including the 3 different types of rocks and the rock cycle. The visit happened at the request of the class teacher, Joanna Broome. Amanda assembled a variety of rocks from the departmental collections to show the students. Amanda noted that the students were “very engaged”, as is evident in the accompanying photograph of Amanda with some of the students during the visit.
