ACADIA ALERT - Delayed Campus Opening (Weather)

Acadia University will delay opening campus on Monday, December 08, 2025 until 12:00 noon. All morning exams will be rescheduled to a later date and afternoon and evening exams will continue as scheduled. Conditions on campus will be assessed throughout the morning and if there is a need to remain closed a follow up message will be sent.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus until it opens. Residences will be accessible, and Wheelock Dining Hall will be open.

Gelinas Silver Medal: Gabriel Santos

Acadia graduate (MSc 2018) Gabriel Sombini dos Santos has been named as the recipient of the 2019 Gelinas Silver Medal for the best MSc thesis in Volcanology and Igneous Petrology by the Volcanology and Igneous Petrology Division of the Geological Association of Canada. Gabriel's thesis, entitled "Petrology, geochemistry, age, and tectonic setting of the Margaree Pluton, Aspy terrane, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia", was supervised by Sandra Barr. The award will be presented to Gabriel during the 2019 annual meeting of the GAC in Quebec City in May. In making the award, the selection committee noted that they were impressed by his "exceptional research". Gabriel is currently pursuing a PhD degree at the University of Waterloo on deformed ophiolitic rocks in China.
