Dinosaurs on the Wapiti River!
Hi my name is Duncan! I spent this past summer in Northern Alberta working at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum as a rafting guide and interpreter. On a typical day I was rowing through the Wapiti River valley leading trips of guests, exposing them to the perspectives of prospecting paleontologists. Along the way we would go ashore and hunt for fossils. When I wasn’t rowing in the summer sun, I would be back at the museum helping lead and develop school group programming. Throughout the summer I had a special opportunity to accompany our paleontology team to some of the dig sites. After trekking through thickly vegetated grizzly bear country, we would reach a steep walled creek or river valley. From there we had to clamber across the crumbly slopes to the dig site. Picking through crumbly shale and mud we were able to uncover fossilized dinosaur bones that have been buried for 73 million years. Digging for dinosaurs has been, is, and will always be, my dream!
