Description:

·        Long stiff needles similar to those of white pine except with two needles per bundle

·        Basal sheaths nearly 1 cm long

·        Bark is scaly and distinctly red

·        Cones are egg-shaped

·        Robust tree retaining a round shape

Habitat:

·        Lowland areas
