• Tall slender grass growing in loose clumps
• Spikes are slender up to 25 cm long and at times almost cylindrical
• At maturity spikelets break up readily, leaving the glumes attached to the spikes

·        Talus slopes

·        Sea cliffs

·        Brackish shores

·        Rocky floodplains

·        Dry banks
